McLennan County DA fires veteran prosecutor

Executive Criminal District Attorney Tom Needham said prosecutor Hilary LaBorde was fired over a difference of opinion, not her work as an attorney.

WACO, Texas — McLennan County District Attorney Barry Johnson has fired one of the county's veteran prosecutors, Executive Criminal DA Tom Needham confirmed Friday evening.

Needham said prosecutor Hilary LaBorde was fired over a difference of opinion, not over her casework.

"She was discharged for internal matters, nothing to do with her performance as an attorney," Needham said. "She's an excellent attorney, who does a really good job with her case and caseload. Matters arised over a difference of opinion, leading to the discharge."

LaBorde was one of the county's prosecutors during the Shawn Oakman trial and even organized the plea deal in the Jacob Anderson case. Oakman, a former Baylor football player, was found not guilty of sexual assault. Anderson was a Baylor fraternity president accused of rape. He did not face any jail time under the plea deal.
