FAIRFIELD, Texas — A Fairfield ISD school bus crashed into a utility pole Monday morning, resulting in the driver being taken to a nearby hospital, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
Around 7 a.m., DPS Troopers responded to a reported crash on FM-488 near CR 232, northeast of Fairfield. According to DPS, a school bus that was traveling eastbound veered off the roadway and struck a utility pole.
The bus had 27 students onboard, and no serious injuries were reported after everyone was examined by first responders, according to Fairfield ISD Superintendent Joe Craig. The driver was taken to the hospital for an injury.
It is speculated that the weather conditions Monday morning may have contributed to the accident, but the district says that they are allowing Texas DPS to lead the official investigation, which is ongoing.

Good Morning Parents,
This morning, a Fairfield ISD school bus with 27 students onboard was involved in an accident on FM 488 near CR 232 around 7:05 a.m. while on its way to school. We are incredibly grateful that no students were seriously injured. Our bus driver was transported to the hospital for an injury.
DPS is leading the official investigation, but this morning's weather likely contributed to the accident.
Once all students were checked by first responders, a second bus was dispatched to bring the students back to their home campus where their parent/guardian was able to pick them up. Once again, not students had any serious injuries.
As with any significant event, I wanted to share the information with you personally. The safety of all students and employees remains our top priority.
