A man whose home was destroyed when an armed man hid inside it and engaged in hours long standoff with police and SWAT members is suing the city of Greenwood Village.
Leo Lech's home was destroyed in the incident last June when law enforcement blew out the walls of the home on South Alton Street and went in to get the shoplifting suspect.
According to the lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court, they used tear gas, flash-bang grenades and other items in the efforts to flush out the suspect.
In addition to losing their home, the lawsuit says all of their personal belongings inside were destroyed.
The suit also alleges that the family was offered $5,000 in compensation from the city.
9NEWS reached out the city attorney late Thursday afternoon but has not heard back.
