AXTELL, Texas — Highway 31 is shut down in Axtell after an accident that involved a semi-trailer. Pictures from the scene show the tanker flipped over on the side of the highway. The accident happened at the intersection of US 31 and FM 2311 in the city of Axtell.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the semi was travelling northbound on US 31 and a Dodge passenger car was travelling westbound on FM 2311. The driver of the car failed to yield right of way at the stop intersection. The driver of the passenger car pulled into the path of the semi, causing the vehicles to crash. The collision caused the semi to roll over onto its side.
Both drivers and one passenger from the Dodge were taken to Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Waco to be treated for injuries.
Drivers are urged to avoid the area and find an alternate route. At this time it's not clear when the highway will reopen.
Troopers would like to remind drivers to always make sure the road is clear from oncoming traffic when at a stop intersection. Also, make sure to yield to oncoming traffic, and be sure that it is safe before moving into the intersection.
