A Copperas Cove business that teaches gymnastics to kids is hot with their land lord after the air conditioner stopped working in their new building.
A couple opened the gym in early 2017 to teach local kids, but soon found out that the building’s main AC unit did not work.
In their lease with National Retail Properties, which is based in Florida, it was stated the AC units would be provided in good working condition.
Fierce Pierce Gymnastics Owner, Monica Pierce, said the landlord had the building’s smaller AC unit replaced, but the much larger one responsible for the main gym area was only given maintenance.
When it failed to cool the building, Monica Pierce complained to the land lord, and says she was told the system was previously fine but may have been hit by lightning.
Pierce called an insurance company to do an inspection, but the insurance report stated that the unit went out due to basic wear and tear that caused the mechanical failure, not a lightning strike.
Pierce worries the unit was never fixed in the first place, but said National Retail Properties is still refusing to help.
“There hasn’t been a day when it’s been able to cool at all, I think we are training in 90 degree temperatures, 80 degree temperatures and that’s what it’s been since we tried to turn it on,” Pierce said.
Channel 6 reached out to National Retail properties Friday and Sunday, but they have not returned the call.
In the meantime, Fierce Pierce Gym is looking for other ways they can beat the heat and continue to work with their 150 plus students in in the area.
