Live grenade found inside donation box in Temple, no threat to the public, police say

Temple Police said the grenade was found inside a donation box at Help Heal Veterans-Cahill Center.

TEMPLE, Texas — A live grenade was found in Temple, Texas on Nov. 1, according to the Temple Police Department.

According to Temple PD, officers responded to the 800 block of South 5th Street around 12:57 p.m. for reports of a grenade on-site.

Temple Police said officers on the scene located a device and confirmed that it was a "secure live grenade".

Temple PD later confirmed the grenade was found inside a donation box at Help Heal Veterans-Cahill Center, and that it was found with the pin still in.

Fort Cavazos Explosive Ordinance Disposal personnel reportedly responded to the scene to remove the grenade.

Temple PD said there is no current threat to the public. No further information has been released at this time.
