LIMESTONE COUNTY, Texas — On Wednesday, Limestone County Judge Richard Duncan declared a local state of disaster in response to the heavy rainfall and flooding since April 26.
According to the declaration, "there has been widespread damage to both private and public infrastructure" which prompted the decision from the county. In a letter to Gov. Greg Abbott, Judge Duncan also noted that electrical outages were also of a concern as a result of the aforementioned heavy rainfall and flooding.
The disaster declaration now activates the Limestone County Emergency management plan.
Unless renewed by the Limestone County Commissioner's Court in one week, the disaster declaration will expire on May 22.
A post after the disaster declaration was issued from Limestone County Emergency Management detailed concerns about how roads would fare following the upcoming round of rain. Roughly 40 roads and bridges have been damaged, and officials are urging residents to continue to monitor forecasts as storms make their way into Central Texas.
