Killeen Police Department K9 Elza gets body armor donation

The vest was donated by non-profit Vested Interest in K9s.

KILLEEN, Texas — Killeen Police Department (KPD) K9 Elza will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to Vested Interest in K9s.

The potentially lifesaving body armor is custom fitted for Elza and will be embroidered with “In memory of K9 Lenin, Baytown, TX - EOW 3/9/23." The company has provided over 5,760 vests to K9 units, according to KPD.

The program is open to U.S. dogs that are at least 20 months old and actively employed and certified with law enforcement or related agencies.  K9s with expired vests are also eligible to participate.
