KILLEEN, Texas — Multiple agencies will conduct emergency training operations at the Killeen Regional Airport on Thursday, May 9 as part of annual training, according to the City of Killeen.
The City said Killeen first responders and airport personnel will work with Fort Cavazos officials to conduct the operations. Training agencies will reportedly include the Killeen Police Department, Killeen Fire Department, Killeen’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Killeen Aviation, Fort Cavazos Fire Department, Robert Gray Airfield operations, American Airlines and the Transportation Security Administration.
The involved organizations will conduct drills including active-shooter training, disaster management and emergency response and crisis situations, said the City.
The operations will also include testing a mass casualty triage team and the command/control of emergencies, said the City. The drill is expected to begin around 7 p.m., and residents are advised that while they may see or hear additional activity at the airport, there is no active emergency.
The City of Killeen said emergency officials work in conjunction with joint agencies and train to "properly prepare for and respond to disaster situations". This exercise is one of many to "help maintain the skills to ensure the public's safety at all times," said the City.
