Killeen firefighters assisting in multiple Texas wildfires

The Texas A&M Forest Service reports that wildfires have burned through over 5,000 acres of land.

KILLEEN, Texas — Killeen Fire Department firefighters are deployed across Texas to assist in battling wildfires and helping crews in disaster services,

Five Killeen firefighters are now in the middle of a 14-day deployment including:

  • Battalion Chief Cory Davis
  • Captain Marcus Stillwell
  • Captain Matt Phillips
  • Fire Rescue Officer Charlie Layton
  • Fire Rescue Officer Chris Hartwell

The Texas A&M Forest Service reports that the Killeen crews as well as others have responded to more than half a dozen wildfires that have burned through more than 5,000 acres in the following counties:

  • Mason
  • Bastrop
  • Jones
  • Callahan
  • Throckmorton
  • San Saba
  • Shackleford
  • Randall

The Forest Service also urges all citizens to help prevent wildfires by checking local weather and drought conditions. Additionally, with dove and hunting season starting over Labor Day weekend, the Forest Service says it's important to practice extreme caution outdoors.
