A 25-year-old driver from Killeen was killed in a single-vehicle rollover on I-14 (formerly U.S. Highway 190) in Harker Heights around 8:52 p.m. Tuesday, according to law enforcement.

The Harker Heights Police Department said the crash happened just west of the FM 2410 (Knights Way) overpass.

Based on the preliminary investigation, officers said they believe a 2004 GMC Envoy was driving west on I-14 when it left the interstate, went up onto the sloping grassy median, rolled over several times onto the westbound access road and came to a halt on its wheels in the driveway of a business that was located in the 100 block of West Central Texas Expressway.

"The vehicle initially caught fire but was extinguished after the Harker Heights Fire Department arrived on scene," Harker Heights Police Sgt. Steve Miller wrote in a Facebook post.

Harker Heights Police identified the driver as Arturo A. Oniel II. He was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

An autopsy was ordered, and Oniel's next of kin was notified, according to police.

A male passenger in the vehicle was transported to Scott & White Hospital in Temple with undisclosed injuries, according to Sgt. Miller.

The Harker Heights Police Department's Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the cause of the crash.

Correction: A prior version of this article identified I-14 as I-45 on first reference. It has been corrected to say I-14 on both references.
