KILLEEN, Texas — Killeen native Da'Quan Fulford is professional dancer and has been in the spotlight dancing for famous artist Missy Elliott on her "Out of This World" tour.
"One day I was in L.A. dancing with my friends and I ended up receiving this email about sending in a self tape," Fulford said. "A few days later I ended up getting an email to come through and rehearse."
Even though Fulford landed the rehearsal, he said he still did not have the job locked up.
"There were certain things Missy wanted to see during the rehearsal before you got the job," he said.
Fulford got the job dancing for Elliott, and has been on tour with her ever since. The current tour has two shows left. The Killeen native still calls Central Texas home and got his start in dancing growing up in the city.
"I started dancing when I was four or five, around age seven my mom took me to a studio called Central Texas Performing Arts, it's no longer open but that's where I got my start," he said.
Fulford also starred in the show All-American: Homecoming and Descendants: The Rise of Red as a dancer. He gave advice for any aspiring dancers looking to achieve their goals.
"You got to throw yourself in the fire when it comes to dance if you really want to do it seriously," he said. "I would write my goals down on paper and check it off every time I accomplished one of those goals."
Fulford is excited for what his future holds and continues to stay passionate about dance.
"Dance means the world to me honestly, it's an outlet for me as far as my feelings, it's everything," he said.
