KILLEEN, Texas — Killeen city councilman Gregory Johnson announced Wednesday he will not seek reelection to the city council. Johnson said he will finish his current term, which ends in May 2020, and will then announce his plans to serve his community in a new way.
"My core goal while serving on the Killeen City Council has always been to ensure Killeen is the place where people want to work, play and grow their families,” Johnson said. "Planned Growth, Smart Government, Crime Prevention, and a Strong Economy have been instrumental towards achieving this goal.”
According to a press release, Johnson's main efforts while on the council included fighting crime, using taxpayers' dollars efficiently and promoting growth of the city's economy.
Some of Johnson's leadership roles included his work on the Killeen Housing Authority, Killeen Planning and Zoning Commission, Central Texas Council of Governments, Development District of Central Texas, Killeen Temple Metropolitan Planning Organization and various nonprofits and trade associations.
Johnson said he plans on continuing to serve the community, since he lives and breathes volunteerism.
“I remain fully committed to my duties, responsibilities and obligations as a city councilmember and will finish out my last term with grace, honor and service to fellow citizens and taxpayers,” Johnson said.
