WACO, Texas — All northbound lanes on I-35 are open after a fiery semi-truck crash that happened overnight. The Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers responded to a call about a crash that happened at approximately 12:45 a.m. on IH-35 near mile marker 329, south of Waco.
An 18-wheeler was traveling northbound and struck another 18-wheeler that was parked on the inside shoulder. After crashing into the parked semi, the semi then crashed into a Chevrolet Tahoe and became fully engulfed in flames.
The driver of the truck, Jesus Salas, 34, of Grand Prairie,was pronounced dead at the scene. Two occupants of the parked semi was taken to Baylor Scott and White in Waco to be treated for possible injuries. No other injuries have been reported.
Part of I-35 had to be shut down while crews worked to clear the scene. Traffic was diverted onto the frontage road near the Loop 340 exit, which created a big back-up during the morning commute.
The investigation into what caused the initial crash is still active and ongoing.
