Hip hop artist inspires Waco High athletes with new song

'Work hard and make a plan:' Quistar dropped a song with a positive message for Waco High football team.

WACO, Texas — There's a song sweeping the hallways of Waco High School and now across the city. "Waco High What's Up" is a song created by Hip Hop Artist Quistar who said it's all about spreading a positive message.

Quistar knows a positive mindset and a microphone are a powerful thing.

"That's something that I wake up every day inspired to push in my music and try to translate to kids. Especially in our community that anything you want to do is a possibility and all you have to do is work hard and make a plan. It could happen," said Quistar.

He was asked to create a song to motivate Waco High's football team. At first he hesitated because he graduated from University High School in Waco. But after the requests continued, Quistar decided spreading hope and inspiration can be a universal message.

"I wanted to give them something to wake up and inspire them. That's why the song is, it's time to go to work," he said.

Quistar grew up in Waco and his grandmother worked for Waco ISD for 27 years.

"She would take me to all the games. And so I just feel like I want to bring back that energy. The electricity that I felt as a child sitting in those stands and I wanted to give the kids and the community something they could share and appreciate and enjoy," he said.

When the song started to spread, kids started to direct message him showing their thanks and motivation.

"Even teachers saying that they are hearing the song being played over the intercom during the school day," said Quistar.

DJ Precyse at 107.3 The Beat radio station invited Quistar to drop the song over the air waves so the city can hear it too.

"It's a big morale booster, you know, the kids need it. There have been some issues going on at school and just in general and community, you know, so to have somebody come back and visit with the stature that has done big, great things and been with big major artists, it's good for them to come back and do that. And it's definitely something to uplift the kids, to motivate them, to let him know that they're not forgotten," said DJ Precyse.

Quistar's music has a reputation for hyping up athletes. His song "Time2Go2Work" became a theme song for the Baylor Bear football team during a hot streak.

"Every touch down that was scored, they played it in the arena. So that was my first feeling of having the arena stadium sound and I wanted to try to follow that up," said Quistar.

"You're trying to make a song and write the lyrics and imagine how people in an arena of all different ages and demographics would respond to what would excite them," he said.

If University High School decided they need a song too...

"I would love to do it as well. But at the end of the day, it's all about positivity in the community and the kids," he said.
