HILL COUNTY, Texas — The Hill County Sheriff's Office says it is covering the veterinary bills for a dog owner after an Animal Control officer accidently ran over their puppy on Tuesday, Feb. 27.
According to the Sheriff's Office, Officer Rick Brooks responded to the 100 block of Dogwood Drive in Whitney, Texas after someone reported a dog had been hit and killed by a passing driver.
The Sheriff's Office says Brooks spoke with the owner of the dog and addressed their other numerous dogs that were being allowed to roam around freely, causing a danger to nearby drivers.
According to the Sheriff's Office, Brooks was backing out from this home when a puppy went under his truck, he reportedly heard the puppy yelp, which is when he realized he had accidentally ran over it.
The Sheriff's Office says the puppy was taken to Young's Animal Hospital where they found no broken bones or major injuries.
Hill County Sheriff's Office says it is taking care of the veterinary bills due to this accident.
