GHOLSON, Texas — According to the City of Gohlson ordinance, residents are not allowed to live in an Recreational Vehicle (RV) for more than 180 days on their property
This is a hurdle Kamkane Enterprises' Renee Gillette is trying to work with the City on to keep their RV community going.
"Even in the current RV park down the road there were a lot of people that lived there and came back, so it raised a lot of questions about the clarity of the ordinances," Gillette said.
In the RV resort, Gillette said they are pushing for 90% of the residents to stay there long term so they can run background checks before leasing them a lot, also to hopefully ease the City's concerns about crime associated with the park.
"Two of the residents that live down Silver River Road brought that up as a claim (regarding crime coming from the park)," Gillette said. "There's an RV park that's half a mile away and there's virtually zero crime there."
Gillette also said that a long term variance for the RV community would ensure that it is not a revolving door, addressing the mayor's hope that residents will "settle down" and build the community over time.
Gillette also pushed back on the City's claim that the park would cause significant traffic issues on the dirt road. Mainly that Silver River Road dead ends passed the park and the driveway is structured in a way that the park is visible from the road and prevents people from going to the dead end.
Gillette said not only does the RV park property provide sales tax to the City, but it also brings in more people to the area to shop locally and increase sales tax revenue.
"If you just look at all of Central Texas, all of the communities are growing," Gillette said. "Silver River Road is even getting more people moving into subdivisions off the road."
Gillette said the park will have ordinances that residents will have to follow and amenities will be on par with the "luxury RV resort" feel.
"Gohlson has water and people are looking in the area for that," Gillette said. "The land is beautiful, they have pristine property and this is Brazos River-front property."
Gillette said they are trying to produce a "positive amenity for the community to enjoy."
