GATESVILLE, Texas — The Gatesville Police Department is introducing the Care Call Program to provide regularly-scheduled phone calls to check in on residents over the age of 65 that live alone.

According to the department, volunteers will make weekly calls to check their welfare, offer assistance and provide a simple conversation.

The department states, "It is designed for seniors living within the city limits of Gatesville with a working telephone and who have the cognitive ability to participate in the program. Exceptions can be made for participants based on serious health issues, age, and or limited family contact."

If a resident expresses a concern, the department says the volunteer will determine if a response is necessary. If there are any unanswered calls with no response, an officer will go to the location to provide a welfare check.

If you or someone you know would like to learn more about the Care Call Program, you can call 254-865-2226.
