From Afghanistan to Bell County, K-9 keeps community safe

BELL COUNTY, Texas —

Niki is a K-9 that works with the Bell County Constable’s Office and keeps people out of harm’s way. She is almost 4-years-old and already has a large career.

The Constables' Office got Niki as a donation from a company that did explosive detection for the military. She did a deployment with that company in Afghanistan for about 9 months. She is originally from Eastern Europe and understands commands in multiple different languages.

Niki’s partner, Deputy Douglas Coggin, said that they have a unique bond and he spends more time with Nikki than anyone else.

"I think (K-9s') are a very useful tool much needed in the community. Their noses can you know detect things that we wouldn't be able to find until it was too late,” Coggin said.
