Correction: A previous version of this story said the incident occured at 10:55 p.m. and included eight flat-cars, according to the Fort Hood officials. They later recounted the incident happened at 8:30 p.m. and included six cars.
Fort Hood emergency services reported that an six flat-car derailment occurred at 8:30 p.m. June 30 on Fort Hood approximately 100 yards west of Clarke Road.
At the time of the incident, Ford Hood personnel were setting up a Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) pick-up, or "adding cars to the train," when the cars derailed.
Fort Hood emergency crews responded to the scene, and reported no injuries or spillage of hazardous material, including any petroleum, oil or lubricants occured.
The flat cars were reportedly carrying Light Medium Tactical Vehicles (LMTV) and High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV).
One LMTV reportedly caught fire and tires on several other vehicles were reported burning. The fires were put out by DES crews while on scene.
The incident is under investigation. No other information is available at this time.
