Five people indicted for murder in McLennan county Wednesday

MCLENNAN COUNTY, Texas — Five people were indicted for murder in McLennan County Wednesday. A full list and short description of their crimes are listed below.

Kevin Darnell Wash

Kevin Darnell Wash, 22, was charged with capital murder after 20-year-old Joangel Ortegon was killed and three other people were injured on Feb. 7 in a failed robbery attempt at a home in the area 19th and Trice. 

Police found multiple guns and a large amount of marijuana in the house.

After the shooting, one man was found when officers arrived. Another man was found down the street. A third man was taken to a hospital in a private vehicle.

The three men injured were identified as Douglas James, 30; Kevin Walsh, 22 and Carson Elias, 19. The three men suffered gunshots wounds to different parts of their bodies.

James had a gunshot wound to the back, Walsh received a gunshot wound to the chest and Elias had two gunshot wounds to lower extremities, according to Waco PD.

Delviyonte Dequare Sampson

Delviyonte Dequare Sampson, 19 was arrested in February in Witchita Falls in connection to the murder of Tyler McKinney, according to the Waco Police Department.

Officers found 19-year-old Tyler McKinney of Waco, dead inside a car with gunshot wounds in his “upper torso” on 4500 Cedar Mountain Dr. in January after reports of gunshots.

David earl johnson - February

A man was beaten to death in Waco in February. Police were called just before after 5 a.m. to a home in the 1200 block of East Calhoun for reports of a disturbance.

Officers found a man dead inside the home. Investigators said David Johnson, 55, got into an argument with the victim and hit him with a hammer, killing him.

Johnson was arrested on several outstanding warrants and charged with murder in this incident. It is unclear what led to the argument.

Krisean Gibson and Jamarine Long - February

Both Gibson and Long were arrested after an investigation from a Nov. 1 murder that happened at the Grove Apartments on S. University Parks Dr. in Waco.

D’airse Holder, 22, was shot at a Halloween party and was taken to a hospital where he died. Another man was injured and released from the hospital, police said.

Krisean Gibson was arrested on Feb. 17 by the Desoto Police Department. Gibson was arrested on a murder warrant issued by the Waco Police Department.

Jamarine Long was arrested in early January by the Hillsboro PD on a Waco PD warrant charging him with murder, police said.
