First day of early voting brings a few frustrations for residents looking to cast their ballot

Long lines and tech issues were just a few problems early voters ran into at the polls on Monday.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The first day of early voting came with a few problems at the polls.

Large turnout led to long lines at several locations as was seen at the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center on McArdle Road.

Some voters had to wait in line up to two hours in order to mark their choices on the ballot.

Long lines weren't the only issue residents were running into while trying to make their voices heard.

"The first day usually there's going to be some hiccups, it just always happens that way," Nueces County Pct. 3 Commissioner John Marez said. "We've had several reports come in of polling sites that have had different issues whether it being electronic or paper ballots themselves."

One voter, Susan Sportsman, shared her frustration with 3NEWS.

"I thought they would be a little more efficient than that, I don't know anything about the ballot box but have a back up, have an I-tech online, but mostly having more than one person to check every body in," she said.

Marez asks that anyone experiencing issues at the polls report them to the county clerk's office.

He also reassured the systems being used will be able to count everyone's vote.

"It happens, but the new systems that are being used in Nueces County are redundant so that you always have a paper backup," he said. "A lot of people wanted that so it's in existence so that should be able to verify any ballots that may have been missed or overlooked, they'll be able to back that up with hard copies."

Remember, there are plenty of places around town to go and cast your ballot. You can check out a full list of early voting locations here.
