Victim identified in fiery crash in Temple

TPD has identified the victim as 30-year-old Thomas Needles from Kempner, TX.

TEMPLE, Texas — One person is dead after a car crashed into a house in Temple and caused it to catch fire Friday morning.

TPD has identified the victim as 30-year-old Thomas Needles from Kempner, TX.

According to Temple Fire Department spokesman Santos Soto, authorities were called to the 2100 block of S. 9th Street because of a fire that started after 8 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, they discovered a driver crashed their car into a second home at 2107 S. 9th St. That driver died at the scene, Soto said.

In an update from Temple Police Friday afternoon, the crash occurred after the driver of the car traveled east down Avenue R and left the roadway, hitting a parked car and the home. Police say the home that the car crashed into didn't have anybody inside. 

The driver was declared dead by Judge Larry Wilkey at 8:25 a.m. The identity of the driver hasn't been revealed and is pending an autopsy at the Southwestern Institute of Forensics Science in Dallas.

No other injuries were reported.

Temple PD say the case is under investigation.
