Fallen Falls Co. deputy honored in Austin

K-9 deputy Matt Jones died Oct. 11 when a vehicle struck him and another officer while they were helping a driver on Hwy. 6.

FALLS COUNTY, Texas — A fallen Central Texas deputy was honored for his service during a ceremony in Austin this week.

Falls County K-9 deputy Matt Jones was one of 14 members of law enforcement whose names were officially added to the Sheriffs’ Association of Texas Lost Lawman Memorial in Austin during Friday's ceremony. 

Jones was a four-year veteran of the sheriff's office. 

He died Oct. 11 when a vehicle hydroplaned and hit him and Riesel Police Chief Danny Krumnow while they were helping a driver on Hwy. 6.

Jones was pronounced dead at the scene. Krumnow was critically injured and hospitalized for more than a month before his release in November.
