Edible cookie dough in CTX business takes off amid pandemic

She said she had plans to start her own business down the road. However, she never imagined it would happen so soon during a pandemic.

TEMPLE, Texas — While many businesses in Texas are reopening, one woman in Temple is just getting started with a business from her own kitchen.

Mary Senese founded Dough Re Mi Cookie Dough in Temple. She said she had plans to start her own business down the road. However, she never imagined it would happen so soon during a pandemic.

"I actually got a job in HR, which is what I really wanted at a hotel and I was very excited about it, but they were really struggling and going downhill and they actually ended up withdrawing my job offer," Senese said.

Hi! I'm Mary, the founder of Dough Re Mi. I started making cookie do... ugh for family & friends in December 2019 and recently started expanding to customers throughout Central Texas and beyond! Right now, I just make the dough out of my home kitchen, but my dream is to one day have a storefront.

In December she began making edible cookie dough for her friends and family, and when her career plans came to a halt due to COVID-19 she had to switch gears.

"I thought this would be a great opportunity to start pursuing this more seriously,” Senese said. “I've always wanted to open my own business some day and so I figured I'd give it a shot and here we are."

For now, she makes the cookie dough in her home kitchen. The different flavors of cookie dough, like cookies and cream, birthday cake, s’mores, and chocolate chip are all safe to eat because she doesn’t use eggs.

So far Senese said it has been a hit and she’s just getting started.

"I think It's really the perfect time in a way,” Senese said, “because it just brings joy to people in this time of so much uncertainty.”

She offers shipping and delivery, but she’s hoping to expand her business and open a store front.
