KILLEEN, Texas — A Killeen HEB that had been in operation for more than 60 years closed this weekend. Now, the location will be used for a monthly food distribution service.
In September, an HEB spokesperson announced the company's plan to close its 809 N. Gray St. location in downtown Killeen saying the store could no longer offer the service customers deserve because of changing market conditions and needed renovations.
HEB planned to close the location Sunday but ran out of inventory Saturday after offering a 50% discount to customers.
HEB will now partner with the Central Texas Food Bank to provide free monthly food distribution services in the store's parking lot.
The first service will be held Oct. 29 at 8:30 a.m.
