WACO, Texas — The Texas Department of Transportation is making improvements to I-35 through Waco as part of the My35 Improvement effort.

Crews plan to close 8th St. at the northbound frontage road Friday at noon. This closure is set to be in place until mid-2021.

All lanes on the northbound frontage road are closed from 14th to 9th streets. The roadway is expected to reopen in summer 2020.

Local traffic will be directed to 16th St. to connect with Speight Ave. for access to local businesses and homes. Both closures are needed to allow crews to work to install drainage features and other construction activities, in preparation for reconstructing the northbound frontage road.

All schedules are dependent on weather, field conditions and work progress, according to TxDOT.

The I-35 Waco project will improve safety and mobility throughout the I-35 corridor. To learn more about this project, visit the My35 website.
