BELL COUNTY, Texas — Several cows washed up in Stillhouse Lake Monday night after being swept away in the Lampasas River following severe storms and flooding that struck Central Texas over the weekend.
Elsa Holm told 6 News that her husband, Corey Welch, was out on Stillhouse Lake Monday night, between Union Grove and Dana Peak, and found a herd of cattle swimming in the lake – most of which came from Lampasas.
In a video sent to 6 News, Corey is filming Eric Braden, who is seen helping a Red Angus that’s caught swimming in the lake. Holm said the cow was branded with an "H."

A member of the Facebook group, Lampasas County Breaking News and Information, applauded the Central Texas couple and their effort to save the remaining cows that were alive in the lake. The member said the cattle was stuck in a “massive ‘log jam’ in the lake” and that there were several dead cattle spotted in the waters.
“I cannot [t]hank these people enough for their efforts, time, resources and open hearts,” the member shared on Facebook.
For context, Lampasas is around 40 miles away from Stillhouse Lake.
Holm said that Welch is back out on the lake on a four-wheeler Tuesday, searching 7,000 acres for any other cattle that may have been swept away from the weekend’s floodwaters.
Before 11 a.m., Coryell County Sheriff’s Office dispatch posted in a Facebook group stating they are getting reports of missing cattle.
