CORYELL COUNTY, Texas — Chief Deputy Mark Wilcox is on extended leave from the Coryell Sheriff's Office and is not allowed in the jail, his office or the building, according to Sheriff Scott Williams.
According to Williams, Wilcox is still an employee with the sheriff's office, but was put on leave for a personnel issue on Oct. 22. Williams said the Texas Rangers are looking into the incident.
"I took an oath in front of God and family," Sheriff Williams said. "One of the two promises I made during my campaign was to be transparent-- good, bad or indifferent."
Williams did not provide details of the personnel issue, but there is a possibility of multiple incidents and criminal charges. Williams said he does not foresee criminal charges, but said he is not investigating.
According to Williams, Wilcox's leave lasts until more information comes to light.
Wilcox as been with the department for 13 to 14 years, Williams said.
