North Texas asst. principal who was airlifted after classroom incident is released from hospital

When asked about her condition Tuesday morning, Corsicana school district officials said Rogers had been released from the hospital and was recovering at home.

CORSICANA, Texas — A North Texas assistant principal who was flown to a hospital after a "classroom disruption" involving a student last week is now back home and recovering, officials said.

Candra Rogers, an assistant principal at Collins Intermediate School in Corsicana, was injured in the incident, which happened Thursday.

When asked about her condition Tuesday morning, Corsicana school district officials said Rogers had been released from the hospital and was recovering at home.

More information about her condition was not released.

According to a letter sent to parents by Principal Tiffany Boortz, there was a "disruption in a classroom" on Thursday that resulted in Rogers getting injured. The incident happened in a classroom with less than 10 students, officials said Friday, but more details about what happened were not released.

One student was taken into custody over the incident.

No other students or staff were in danger and the campus was placed on "Hold" status while the staff member was tended to, Boortz told parents.

The Navarro County District Attorney’s office told WFAA that the involved student, a boy, had a detention hearing and that he is now under parental supervision with an ankle monitor.

Charges against the boy are pending, officials said, and will be determined once the investigation is complete.

“We're just going to wait and let the legal system play out and hopefully Mrs. Rogers will be OK and back at work soon,” Corsicana ISD spokesperson Raymond Lenix said.

Rogers joined the Corsicana district last semester, officials said. Her husband, Eugene Rogers, is in his first season as the Corsicana High School football coach.

On Friday, the district will hold a "Jeans Day" to raise money for the Rogers family. Suggested donations are $2 for students and $5 for staff members.

"Jeans often mean comfort and style, but Friday they will mean more than that. Corsicana ISD staff and students can wear jeans on Friday as part of normal fundraising efforts on campuses," the district said.
