Copperas Cove Animal Control trying to catch skunk after it gaves rabies to kitten

The skunk attacked a feral kitten, then disappeared.

COPPERAS COVE, Texas — Copperas Cove Animal Control says a rabid skunk is on the loose.

They first got reports of the skunk after it attacked a feral kitten on Marilyn Dr. That happened on Monday, Sept. 16 at 11:20 a.m.

The injured kitten had to euthanized. It's body was tested for rabies by the Texas Department of Health Laboratory, and the test came back positive.

Animal Control Officers couldn't catch the skunk. They're asking anyone who knows about the skunk, or any other wild animal in the area, to contact them at (254) 547-5584.

After hours, you can also talk to the Copperas Cove Police Department at (254) 547-8222.

CC Animal Control says to go to the vet, or the doctor, if you or your pet are exposed to rabies.

Rabies is most common in bats, coyotes, raccoons, skunks, and foxes.
