'Cook for a Cause': The Longest Day organizers ask for pre-orders ahead of June 20 event

Pre-orders must be placed by 5 p.m. on June 18.

TEMPLE, Texas — With each passing year, more than a thousand hamburgers and hundreds of tacos are grilled up and delivered, all in the name of a noble cause, the annual "Longest Day" event.

This event is scheduled for Thursday, June 20, from sun up to sun down. It is set to take place in the Hilton Garden Inn parking lot here, aiming to raise funds and awareness in the fight against Alzheimer's Disease.

Joining forces with over 80 community sponsors and supported by 250 volunteers, 6 News is proud to contribute to making this event a success year after year.

However, for those eager to sink their teeth into these charitable offerings, the deadline for pre-orders for tacos and burgers is June 18. This allows the organizers, led by Visiting Angels in Temple, to meet their ambitious goal.

Among the volunteers who lend their time and culinary skills to the cause are Jeff Davison and Stephen Moseley. For them, it's not merely about grilling food; it's about "cooking for a cure."

We're cooking for a cure," said Moseley. Who said he is inspired most by the volunteers each year. "The people that come out and serve and give up their time and stand in the heat. It's not like they're out there for ten minutes. They're out there all day long. It's significant how everybody starts cooking before the sun comes up, by 6:15 in the morning," said Moseley.

Organizer Jamie Moseley highlighted the significance of choosing the longest day of the year for the fundraiser.

"We've chosen to grill from sun up to sun down to represent that day. The longest day is the day with the longest light. And so it's grueling for them. It's a long journey. We are saying we see you. We see you," she said.

This year's goal is to prepare 600 breakfast tacos and 1200 hamburgers, all of which are made with quality ingredients, including angus beef patties.

"We need people to order. If your business is going to eat that day for lunch, breakfast or dinner. Eat for a cause, eat for a cure. You can order breakfast tacos. There's free delivery and donations only. The meals have chips, burgers and drinks. It's delicious. It's angus beef patties. I guarantee you won't be disappointed," said Moseley.

To ensure timely delivery, pre-orders must be placed by 5 p.m. on June 18.

Interested parties can email TLDpreorder@gmail.com, providing their name, delivery address, quantity of tacos or burgers, and preferred delivery time.
