Over 600-person fraternity party shut down in College Station, organizer arrested

Police say even though the organizer applied for a permit to host the party, it was denied because of "safety and logistical concerns" among other issues.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — A major party involving three fraternities that took place in College Station on Sunday was shut down and the organizer was arrested, according to the College Station Police Department.

That day, around 2 p.m., CSPD officers went to the area in an around Aurora Court where the large party was being hosted. Police say the event had been planned out with live bands, food vendors, portable restrooms, and lots of alcohol.

Police say the event was shut down due to it not having "proper authorization" and one of the fraternity members being denied a special events permit through the City of College Station but still chose to host the event.

It's estimated that 600 people were in attendance for the party.

Others that attempted to arrive at the party were turned away by officers. The bands that were performing had their performances shut down and the food vendors also had to close up.

CSPD says the process of clearing the party took several hours and that the area around where the party took place was littered with trash.

The fraternity member that was involved in organizing the event and was denied the special events permit, identified by CSPD as Walker Lanier, was arrested and charged with a City Ordinance Violation for "holding an unpermitted special event after being told that his permit request was denied."

Police say others were arrested on "various charges" while officers worked to break up the party and "restore order to the area."

Another party in the area was also reported to have been shut down that was smaller but estimated to have nearly 250 people.
