City of Marlin hosts meet and greet for chief of police finalists

The event was held at the Marlin High School Auditorium on Tuesday evening.

MARLIN, Texas —

The City of Marlin hosted a meet and greet with the three finalists for the chief of police position.

The event was held at the Marlin High School Auditorium on Tuesday evening. This event was hosted along with community members who were able to meet each finalist.

"We need a good candidate to come in and talk to the community, lead the community, and let them know they are here for their citizens," Marlin resident Paula Washington said.

Marlin city leaders say each candidate is fully qualified with years of police experience.

Charles Epperson is a former lieutenant for the Dallas Police Department, Lawrence McCall is a former Dallas County Constable, and Scott Peters is a former police chief for the city of Italy.

“We are looking for someone who is highly qualified and has tenure within the police profession, who has been through the ranks and has a good grasp on the knowledge of how to run a police department, how to train the officers, and how to hire in new officers,” Mayor of Marlin Carolyn Lofton said. "We want to professionalize our staff here.”

Since August, the City of Marlin has been searching for a police chief after former chief Nathan Sodek killed himself. The new police chief will be announced at the next city council meeting on November 12.
