TEMPLE, Texas — One of the most tragic days in United States history, 9/11, will be remembered across Central Texas. Here are some events going on in the community to remember the lives lost 23 years ago.
Temple Fire and Rescue
Temple Fire and Rescue will host a ceremony beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Central Fire Station. According to Temple Fire and Rescue, The service will feature opening remarks and the ringing of the bell commemorating a line-of-duty death and marking the collapse of the World Trade Center’s South and North towers.
Killeen ISD
Killeen ISD is hosting their 18th annual freedom walk beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Killeen High School auditorium and continuing at Leo Buckley Stadium. The program includes a video that features local leaders who share memories from the day 23 years ago when hijacked commercial airliners crashed into the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon building, according to the district.
Midway High School
The Midway HS Marine JROTC Unit Color guard will present the colors and the City of Waco Fire Department will conduct a display of American Flag. Additionally, there will be first responder recognition as well, according to the district.
