TEMPLE, Texas — A Temple jewelry store was "full of black smoke" after a woman crashed her vehicle into it Friday morning, according to eyewitness Angie Martinez.
The car plowed into Jewelry & Repair, located on 3rd Street and West Nugent Avenue, a little after 9:30 a.m., property manager Mike Lockett told 6 News.
Martinez, who is a cashier at the neighboring 3rd Street Food Mart, said she was inside at work and talking to two friends when she heard a "big boom."
"I ran outside to see what it was and there was a car, and it was smoking," Martinez recalled. "The whole place right here was full of black smoke because her foot managed to stay pressed on the gas. How it didn't continue to go in [the building] is beyond me because her foot was literally pressed down."
Martinez said she helped the woman -- whom she knows -- out of her vehicle and helped her sit outside, then called 911.
"I do know the lady. I've known her for a very long time," Martinez said. "I do know she has medical conditions and I called 911 immediately and her daughter, of course. Made sure everyone was ok, and out of the vehicle."
Martinez said she believed the woman was having a medical episode, but this is not confirmed with Temple authorities. An ambulance showed up and took the woman to the hospital. The extent of her injuries are unknown at this time.
Temple Police didn't release any official information at the time this article was published.
"The priority now is to get it [the storefront] sealed up and safe, then once it's done, do my investigation as to what happened. The priority is to make sure people are taken care of," Lockett said.
Nobody else appeared to be injured from the crash.
