Candy Cane Corner Daycare responds to child abuse allegations

The owner of Candy Cane Corner Daycare daycare claims the mother who claims her child was abused at the daycare is not telling the truth.

The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services is investigating allegations of abuse and neglect at Candy Cane Corner Daycare in Hewitt.

This comes a day after the mother of a toddler who attends the daycare shared a social media post showing her child with bite marks on her body

Channel 6 made multiple attempts to reach the mother who posted the photos, so far they've gone unanswered.

On Monday, Ciara booth posted the photos on Facebook. The photos went viral and Booth claims her child came home from the daycare with six bite marks and diaper rash. Booth took her daughter to the emergency room and said the doctor told her the bites could be from an adult.

The owner of Candy Cane Corner said she's been working in this business for 18 years and loves kids. She says she called the mom and told her the child was bitten and even reported the incident to state investigators. She said every now and then the daycare will get a child who is a biter, and they are not taking this lightly.

“The child was bit by a child of the same age,” Candy Cane Corner owner Kris Ketchum said. "It happened and we're sorry that it happened. We are going to start to do some bite training. We take action when this kind of stuff happens.”

Ketchum also said parents are always notified when these types of incidents happen.

“If it gets too bad we will dismissed the child if they continue with behavior that's out of our control,” Ketchum said.

The daycare's record with the state licensing board said they only had one violation in two years.

Ketchum said a in April the center had a yearly state of Texas childcare inspection and got a perfect score. Ketchum said she can't seem to get a response about the allegations from Booth.
