AUSTIN, Texas — Police have launched a homicide investigation after two people were killed in South Austin on Saturday afternoon.

Just after 12 p.m., the Austin Police Department said officers responded to a "check welfare" call at a home in the 2300 block of Brookhill Drive, near the intersection of West Stassney Lane and Menchaca Road. APD said a 911 caller requested police check on a resident at the house.

Officers made entry to the house and found two people dead with multiple trauma wounds. Police would not say what type of wounds the victims had.

Shortly after, officers took a person of interest into custody, APD said. That person is being interviewed by homicide detectives.

This is being investigated as Austin's 44th and 45th homicide of the year.

Police believe this was an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public.

No other information is available at this time.
