BELTON, Texas — Three students from Belton ISD have advanced past the state-level National History Day competition and will now compete at the national competition in June.
Aditi Bhat, Caroline Moehlenbrock and Hope Bovell all advanced, Belton ISD had six students competing at the state level.
“We are so proud of all of our students who competed,” said Chris Lemley, Belton ISD’s social studies coordinator. “They put forth massive amounts of effort to complete these projects. The talent and creativity they displayed is inspiring. We’re thrilled that so many of our students were recognized for their hard work at the state level.”
National History Day is a yearlong program where students will explore and study local, state, national and world history. The program itself has three levels of competition -- regional, state and national. The theme for this year was "Breaking Barriers in History" and students were tasked with showcasing their knowledge and presenting their projects to a panel of judges.
Three teachers from Belton ISD, Timothy Potts, Allison Bradburn and Elizabeth Howson, were advisors for the students.
“These teachers, together with parents and administrators, helped ensure that Belton ISD remains a leader in the Texas History Day competition,” Lemley said. “Special thanks goes to everyone in the Big Red Community who has supported these students.”
A broadcast of the ceremony, with a special opening and closing by Matthew McConaughey, can be seen here.
