TEMPLE, Texas — A student has died after a "medical emergency" at High Point Elementary School on Friday, May 17, according to a release from the Belton Independent School District.
BISD said the emergency happened around 9 a.m. at High Point Elementary in Temple.
According to the district, staff at the school "swiftly responded" with the support of emergency responders. A Kindergarten student was reportedly taken to Baylor Scott and White McClane Children's Medical Center in Temple.
The district stated the child died that afternoon.
"The entire Belton ISD community is deeply saddened by this tragedy and extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of our student," said BISD in a release.
"Our deepest condolences and prayers are with the student's family during this unimaginable time," said BISD Superintendent Malinda Golden in a statement. "We also extend our heartfelt support to the entire High Point Elementary community who are grieving this loss."
Counseling services and additional support will reportedly be available at High Point Elementary for "as long as needed" to help students, staff and families, said Golden.
No further information has been given at this time.
