BELTON, Texas — Belton ISD has announced that it will close all campuses on April 8, 2024 due to potential challenges during the Total Solar Eclipse.
According to the school district, administrators had been meeting with local city and county officials to learn more about potential challenges and safety implications for students and faculty.
The school district says everyone had shared concerns pertaining to cellphone outages, transportation issues and potential safety impact of having an influx of visitors in the area.
Therefore, Belton ISD made the decision to close all campuses and district offices on that day. However, this forces the district to remove the scheduled student holiday/workday on April 15. That day will now be a regular school day.
Belton ISD made the following statement:
"Although we will not be in school, we encourage all BISD students and families to learn about and experience the North American Total Eclipse of the Sun. Our Teaching and Learning team will be working with campuses to plan classroom experiences before and after the Eclipse. We also plan to provide students with glasses to view the Eclipse safely from home."
