'You'll be blessing the community' | Central Texas non-profit Closet of Hope is in need of winter clothing donations

Closet of Hope owner Lisa Baggerly said the organization helps up to 400 people every week.

TEMPLE, Texas — Before long, temperatures in Central Texas will drop again and people will be bundling up in their coats and mittens.

At the non-profit organization Closet of Hope in Temple, owner Lisa Baggerly wants the public to remember not everyone has the luxury of having winter clothing on hand.

"Just in the recent months, it's wild to us because we can't keep the racks restocked," Baggerly shared.

Baggerly explained how Closet of Hope helps nearly 400 people each week.

Closet of Hope accepts clothing, shoes and jewelry donations year-round, but right now they're especially in need of winter clothing donations before the winter arrives.

"People can go through their closets, go through things they don't wear and actually clean out a little bit," Baggerly said. "Maybe you can bless someone else."

Here is a list of the winter clothing the organization needs:

  • - Men's jeans
  • - Men's coats/jackets
  • - Men's hoodies
  • - Boy's pants
  • - Boy's jackets
  • - Child winter hats
  • - Men/Women winter hats

Closet of Hope is not the only local organization that could use some love this winter.

Another organization helping out in Central Texas is Feed My Sheep, which is collecting essential hygiene items for those who need them.

Another is Aware Central Texas, which is accepting donations of stuffed animals to help put smiles on kids' faces.

When it comes to Closet of Hope, Baggerly believes the community is capable of stepping in and being the change needed for more people to stay warm.

"If people have them and they're not using them, bring them and we'll put them out," Baggerly said. "You'll be blessing the community."

Closet of Hope accepts donations Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 5625 E Business 190, Temple, TX 76501.

They are also always accepting volunteers during their business hours to help out.
