SALADO, Texas — A large fire broke out at a Salado business Tuesday, causing toxic smoke to fill the area, the Bell County Fire Marshal tells 6 News.
According to Bell County Fire Marshal Shane Geers, the Salado Supply House, an appliance sales and repair shop, caught fire.
Geers said the fire began shortly after 4 p.m. on Oct. 15. Three workers and two customers were reportedly inside but no injuries were reported and all three were able to evacuate.
The area was blocked off on FM 1670 while firefighters worked to contain the toxic smoke, Geers said.
The building was reportedly being used to store refrigerant and refrigerators. Geers said the combustible nature of those caused multiple secondary explosions.
Geers says the building is a "total loss", as are the vehicles that were parked nearby.
The Salado Volunteer Fire Department, Belton Fire Department, Central Bell Fire, Sparta Volunteer Fire Department, Bell County Sheriff's Office, DPS and the State Fire Marshal all reportedly assisted with the fire.
Salado Supply House also posted a statement on social media, thanking the community for offers of assistance and said they will strategize for their future.
