FEMA Disaster Recovery Center location in Bell County to close on July 31

BELL COUNTY, Texas — Editor's Note: The attached video aired on July 1.

The Bell County Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) that currently operates out of Tarver Elementary School in Temple will close at the end of July.

According to Bell County officials, the closure is to allow Belton ISD staff to begin preparing for the start of the new school year. The DRC is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The center opened on June 12 in response to the storms and tornado that came through Central Texas in late May and has helped many take advantage of the $102 million in grants available for those affected by storms throughout the state. Workers at the DRC help visitors apply for FEMA aid, assist them with inquiries to other agencies, and check on the status of their applications.

The last day to apply for aid will be on Aug. 15. Those that are unable to make it to the location can still apply through the FEMA app, DisasterAssistance.gov, or the FEMA helpline, which is available from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The FEMA helpline can be reached by calling 800-621-3362.
