#TempleStrong | Central Texas community supports storm victims at fundraiser, carloads of donations continue to come in

Bold Republic Brewing Company hosted a fundraiser and silent auction on May 31 to help raise money for Central Texans affected by severe storms.

TEMPLE, Texas — As the Temple community continues to rebuild after tornadoes and severe storms, a local brewery is looking to do its part on the road to recovery.

Bold Republic Brewing Company hosted a fundraiser and silent auction on May 31. They invited the community to come out and rally behind their neighbors, strangers and fellow Central Texans.

Dozens of local businesses donated several auction items, like gift card bundles, toys, dumpster rentals and gift baskets. There was also live music and activities for kids thanks to the Temple Children's Museum.

Bold Republic's General Manager Matty Serna said Temple's support in more ways than one is overwhelming.

"It's kind of tear-jerking right now," Serna said. "To see the response and then they're flooding in with the silent auction items that we are about to start. We're having last-minute items be donated by various other businesses. It really, really feels good to do something like this."

Serna hoped that the event's attendees would feel a sense of togetherness, a feeling so many need after the storms.

"Feel that energy, that feeling of what being Temple Strong means," Serna added.

Leading up to the fundraiser, Bold Republic and around 20 other local businesses were collecting non-perishable food, household items and life necessities for people in need. Serna said there have been so many donations that they could fill multiple dump trucks.

Kim Langston visited Bold Republic on May 31 to make a carfull of donations. She told 6 News she felt called upon to help those in need and asked people to drop off at her business, 3 Texans Winery and Vineyard.

"We just felt so fortunate that we were not as affected as many people were. " Langston said. "We just put the word out and said 'Bring your donations, your personal belongings, so we can help' and we had a lot of donations. So we were just kind of the ones that were going to bring it."

The message is clear, support and strength from neighbors is what's getting people through. Langston is just proud to call Temple home.

"I've always thought this community would always come together," Langston added. "When something like this happens, you're still amazed about how it really comes together and it's just very heartwarming. A good place to live."

Resources and donations collected throughout the week will be available to all at Bold Republic beginning at noon on June 2. Those in need will be able to walk through and get what they need for their families.
