Bell County Fire Marshal reveals cause of fire at Stillhouse Hollow Marina

The Fire Marshal said the fire started aboard a nearby boat, which then spread to the marina.

BELL COUNTY, Texas — A fire at the Stillhouse Hollow Marina in Belton on Aug. 7 was the result of an accident, the Bell County Fire Marshal's Office has concluded after an investigation.

The fire began around 7:16 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, according to the Fire Marshal's Office. A fire/explosion reportedly happened on a 24-foot boat near the dock, according to the Office.

The Fire Marshal's Office said a man aboard the boat suffered serious burns to his body and jumped from the boat before swimming to the dock for help.

The boat continued to drift towards the marina while on fire, said the Fire Marshal's Office, causing a secondary fire when it "contacted" the building. The resulting fire reportedly caused damage to the marina building.

No other injuries were reported at the scene, and no other boats have been reported to have been damaged by the fire, according to the Fire Marshal's Office.

The State Fire Marshal's Office, Army Corps of Engineer’s Office, Bell County Emergency Management, Bell County Sheriff’s Department Patrol, Central Bell Volunteer Fire Department, City of Belton Fire Department and City of Nolanville Fire Department all reportedly assisted in the case.
