Hearn lost his fight with cancer on Jan. 10.

BELL COUNTY, Texas — Bell County Sheriff's Department is mourning the loss of Corporal Shawn Hearn, who died after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, Jan. 10.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Hearn that will be held at the First Baptist Church at 506 N. Main in Belton on Friday, Jan. 19 at 2 p.m.

Hearn was 65 years old, he is survived by his wife Sonja Hearn, his three daughters and seven grandchildren.

According to the department, Hearn served over 40 years as a peace officer for University Park PD, Fort Worth PD, Johnson County Sheriff, Killeen ISD PD and the Bell County Sheriff's Department.

Notably, Hearn was awarded the Texas Lawman of the Year Award in June 2022 for saving a 14-day-old baby

Hearn responded to a call from a frantic foster mom who said her infant had turned blue and became unresponsive while traveling. Once Hearn was able to locate the vehicle on the side of the road, he performed CPR on the child for nine minutes until EMS arrived on the scene.

According to the department, the infant began to breathe on it's own once it was placed inside the ambulance.
