BELL COUNTY, Texas — Bell County Sheriff Eddy Lange announced that he will not be running for a fourth term on Friday, Dec. 1.
Lange began serving as Justice of the Peace in Bell County back in November 1992. He served three terms and then moved on to be the County Commissioner in 2004. After two terms in that position, Lange was elected Sheriff in 2012 where he has been ever since.
"This decision comes most difficult, perhaps more so than the original choice to run for Sheriff. Over the last eleven years I have developed a lot of relationships with our staff, many of those I consider to be more friendships than simply co-workers," Lange stated.
While Lange is sad to move on from the position, he knows that Bell County voters will ensure a prosperous future for it.
"Over the last several weeks, I have been in contact with several prospective candidates that wish to run pending my decision. I am confident that the voters of Bell County will have several excellent choices for the next Sheriff," Lange explained.
Lange will continue to serve as Bell County Sheriff until Dec. 31, 2024 when his term officially ends.
Anyone who wants to run for the position must be a licensed peace officer with the State of Texas.
