Family searching for baby alpaca that fell out of trailer on Highway 6 near Marlin

According to the owners, the baby alpaca is just a few days old.

MARLIN, Texas — A North Texas family is asking for the Central Texas community's help in finding their lost baby alpaca, who reportedly fell out of their trailer near Marlin on Wednesday, March 13.

According to the owner, Linda Morrison Clute, they were heading northbound on Highway 6 between College Station and Waco when the baby alpaca, Sazerac, fell out of the trailer she was in with her mother.

Clute says they normally travel with four adult alpacas and they did not realize that without the normal 500 pounds of weight, the floorboards of the trailer would move.

"Some of the boards had shifted a little bit on the flooring, allowing some of them to scoot forward so there was a tiny little crack at the front of the trailer," Clute said. "Apparently big enough for her to slip through, because we have no other explanation for why she's not there."

After the trailer returned home to Argyle, TX with only the mom alpaca on board, the Clutes turned around to re-drive their route to see if they could find 'Sazzy.'

"Drove around for like seven hours in the dark trying to see if we could just find her anywhere along Highway 6 where we thought he hit the bumps, that maybe that was the place, but it was dark, " Clute added. "We did find like a cat and a raccoon and a goat, just we didn't see 'Sazzy' at all."

According to Clute, Sazerac is a tan, caramel color and only a few days old.

Clute provided the following update on Wednesday: "Authorities have been called for help. Mom, Lance and I drove back south to retrace the drive, looking for her, but it was dark, and we had no luck. Our new baby has vanished and we are heartbroken."

Clute said 'Sazzy' was cute and perfect, just soft and sweet. She's hoping the power of social media and the heart of Texans will help them get the answers they are desperately wanting -- even if they aren't positive answers.

"It's just a weird mystery at this point," Clute added. "Just sort of tying it all up, it might be a negative way, might end up not being the best news, but it's kind of better than no news in a way."

Clute said they are also worried about 'Sazzy's' mom, Bria, as she could become in distress for not having her baby with her.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Clute via private message on Facebook.
