KILLEEN, Texas —
When Ricardo Walker bought his home on September 1 of 2018, he thought he was getting everything he needed. He had the right floor plan, the right floors and the right colors.
Right after moving, he said he found out he was living in a 21st century nightmare: No internet connections.
“In this day and age it is pretty essential to have internet capabilities,” Walker said. “Paying bills, I have three boys who love video games, I’m currently enrolled in school.”
Walker attends Park University online. He and his wife sometimes have to visit the library to get things done.
But why were the lines never put down? When Channel 6 called Spectrum customer service, and spoke to “Trisha,” we were told it was because the developer refused to pay a cost associated with the service.
When Channel 6 spoke to Bradley Sheppard of Ashford Homes, he said Spectrum should not have charged anything to put the lines in.
“I don’t know of a developer paying for that to be done,” Sheppard said. “It’s normally up to the utility provider to do that.”
Channel 6 reached out Spectrum corporate communications and is awaiting a more thorough response.
When Channel 6 asked Sheppard why home buyers were not told about the lack of high speed internet, Sheppard said it was not intentional.
“There was never anything that we tried to hide. As soon as we found out about it we tried to disclose it to everybody,” Sheppard said.
When Channel 6 asked how exactly the company would disclose it, he said “When I am talking to people, I let them know that right now, some of these lots don’t have internet.”
